As we all know, real estate prices never fall, unless it is the fault of THOSE PEOPLE and the CRA. We know this because the Mortgage Brokers of America and the National Association of Realtors have told us so.
Whoops, as the Washington Post reports on a 55% haircut on a CRE deal.
The Mortgage Bankers Association, its membership expert in real estate, sold its $90 million headquarters in downtown Washington on Friday for $41 million. [h/t Mish]
That is a massive haircut in a real estate market that should have some insulation as there is job growth in the Washington D.C. MSA and those jobs are decent to very good paying jobs. If there is a 55% haircut on this building in this market, it is a good indicator of what type of haircuts we'll see as commercial real estate implodes over the next two years.
