McClatchey is reporting the size of the envisioned US presence in Iraq after the 'occupation' is over:
Iraqi lawmakers say the United States is demanding 58 bases as part of a proposed "status of forces" agreement that will allow U.S. troops to remain in the country indefinitely....
Other conditions sought by the United States include control over Iraqi air space up to 30,000 feet and immunity from prosecution for U.S. troops and private military contractors. The agreement would run indefinitely but be subject to cancellation with two years notice from either side, lawmakers said...
The top U.S. Embassy spokesman in Iraq rejected the latest Iraqi criticism.
"Look, there is going to be no occupation," said U.S. spokesman Adam Ereli.
No, no occupation there. Just enough infrastructure to support multiple divisions and air wings, complete control of airspace as the Iraqi Air Force is composed of helicopters, transports and propellor driven bombers; none of which can get a rifle to 30,000 feet much less an air to air combat system and the Iraqi Army has no heavy SAMs, and total immunity. Iraq would still be a satrapy.
