Farewell. The Flying Pig Has Left The Building.

Steve Hynd, August 16, 2012

After four years on the Typepad site, eight years total blogging, Newshoggers is closing it's doors today. We've been coasting the last year or so, with many of us moving on to bigger projects (Hey, Eric!) or simply running out of blogging enthusiasm, and it's time to give the old flying pig a rest.

We've done okay over those eight years, although never being quite PC enough to gain wider acceptance from the partisan "party right or wrong" crowds. We like to think we moved political conversations a little, on the ever-present wish to rush to war with Iran, on the need for a real Left that isn't licking corporatist Dem boots every cycle, on America's foreign misadventures in Afghanistan and Iraq. We like to think we made a small difference while writing under that flying pig banner. We did pretty good for a bunch with no ties to big-party apparatuses or think tanks.

Those eight years of blogging will still exist. Because we're ending this typepad account, we've been archiving the typepad blog here. And the original blogger archive is still here. There will still be new content from the old 'hoggers crew too. Ron writes for The Moderate Voice, I post at The Agonist and Eric Martin's lucid foreign policy thoughts can be read at Democracy Arsenal.

I'd like to thank all our regular commenters, readers and the other bloggers who regularly linked to our posts over the years to agree or disagree. You all made writing for 'hoggers an amazingly fun and stimulating experience.

Thank you very much.

Note: This is an archive copy of Newshoggers. Most of the pictures are gone but the words are all here. There may be some occasional new content, John may do some posts and Ron will cross post some of his contributions to The Moderate Voice so check back.

Obama and Civil War

Commentary By Ron Beasley

Hollywood high wingnut Jon Voight asks if Obama is creating a civil war in the US.  The answer of course is yes and he had the help of a majority of the American people.  The civil war began when Barack Hussein Obama was elected the President of the United States.  The election led to the rise of The New Brown Shirts, a small group of angry white people who's brains were broken when a black man became president.

Now they may talk about socialism, fascism and Hitler but John Hari explains what it's all about:

The election of Obama a black man with an anti-conservative message as a successor to George W. Bush has scrambled the core American right's view of their country. In their gut, they saw the US as a white-skinned, right-wing nation forever shaped like Sarah Palin.

When this image was repudiated by a majority of Americans in a massive landslide, it simply didn't compute. How could this have happened? How could the cry of "Drill, baby, drill" have been beaten by a supposedly big government black guy? So a streak that has always been there in the American right's world-view to deny reality, and argue against a demonic phantasm of their own creation has swollen. Now it is all they can see.

So yes there is a civil war but it started months before Obama took office and months before he had actually done anything.

  1. A true wingnut to be sure, but his name is "Jon."

  2. For all you Libs screaming "White Honkey Racists," ask yourself this simple question:
Would you be seeing such an outcry among "White America" if Black Republicans Michael Steele, JC Watts, Colin Powell, Condy Rice or Kenneth Blackwell, or even a moderate Black Democrat like Harold Ford, were President instead of Obama? In fact, we'd be beaming with pride.
(I'm a partisan Libertarian Republican, but oddly, I've always like Democrat Harold Ford and can't understand for the life of me why the Dems chose jerkoff Obama over Ford?)
    Not a chance.
It's all about Socialims NOT! Racism.
