Farewell. The Flying Pig Has Left The Building.

After four years on the Typepad site, eight years total blogging, Newshoggers is closing it's doors today. We've been coasting the last year or so, with many of us moving on to bigger projects (Hey, Eric!) or simply running out of blogging enthusiasm, and it's time to give the old flying pig a rest.

We've done okay over those eight years, although never being quite PC enough to gain wider acceptance from the partisan "party right or wrong" crowds. We like to think we moved political conversations a little, on the ever-present wish to rush to war with Iran, on the need for a real Left that isn't licking corporatist Dem boots every cycle, on America's foreign misadventures in Afghanistan and Iraq. We like to think we made a small difference while writing under that flying pig banner. We did pretty good for a bunch with no ties to big-party apparatuses or think tanks.

Those eight years of blogging will still exist. Because we're ending this typepad account, we've been archiving the typepad blog here. And the original blogger archive is still here. There will still be new content from the old 'hoggers crew too. Ron writes for The Moderate Voice, I post at The Agonist and Eric Martin's lucid foreign policy thoughts can be read at Democracy Arsenal.

I'd like to thank all our regular commenters, readers and the other bloggers who regularly linked to our posts over the years to agree or disagree. You all made writing for 'hoggers an amazingly fun and stimulating experience.

Note: This is an archive copy of Newshoggers. Most of the pictures are gone but the words are all here. There may be some occasional new content, John may do some posts and Ron will cross post some of his contributions to The Moderate Voice so check back.

God I hate these people

Now I'm not sure if Michael Ledeen should be in prison or in an institute for the criminally insane but he shouldn't be free to right stuff like this.



Is Obama Na�?

I don't think so. I think that he rather likes tyrants and dislikes America. I think he'd like to be more powerful, I think he is trying to get control over as much of our lives as he can, so that he can put an end to the annoying tumult of our public life. As when he said (about health care) to the Congress, "Okay, you've talked enough, now it's time to do the right thing (my thing)." And he's trying to end American power in the outside world. He's saying "I'm going to stop us, before we kill again."

There is nothing unusual about elitist hatred of freedom. Back in the 18th century, when book publishing really got going, British authors were infuriated that they had to submit to the judgment of a marketplace. They didn't want to be judged by people who were obviously inferior to them, and there was a great rage among the intelligentsia, including some very famous men. And in modern times, we can all name famous intellectuals who fawned all over Mussolini, Stalin, Fidel, and even Hitler.



Now this is the sort of rhetoric expect from the ignorant racist Glenn Beck teabaggers but not from someone who has been near the top of the pyramid of power.  He even had to throw in Hitler.  Oh, I forgot - he was near Cheney. Never mind!

Also at The Corner even Rich Lowry thinks this is way overboard.  Maybe Rich will sign the papers to have him committed.

    Oh, that was smart.
    He should be free to write anything he wants. It shouldn't be available anywhere but on his own, unread web log, but there's some obscure law somewhere that says he can type & say what he likes.
    You should be calling out NRO for not editing Ledeen's crap.

    I'm inclined to agree with you. Not the first time emotion has gotten in the way of self editing - a blogospheric hazard. BTW the way, like your site and have added it to my bookmarks.
