Farewell. The Flying Pig Has Left The Building.

Steve Hynd, August 16, 2012

After four years on the Typepad site, eight years total blogging, Newshoggers is closing it's doors today. We've been coasting the last year or so, with many of us moving on to bigger projects (Hey, Eric!) or simply running out of blogging enthusiasm, and it's time to give the old flying pig a rest.

We've done okay over those eight years, although never being quite PC enough to gain wider acceptance from the partisan "party right or wrong" crowds. We like to think we moved political conversations a little, on the ever-present wish to rush to war with Iran, on the need for a real Left that isn't licking corporatist Dem boots every cycle, on America's foreign misadventures in Afghanistan and Iraq. We like to think we made a small difference while writing under that flying pig banner. We did pretty good for a bunch with no ties to big-party apparatuses or think tanks.

Those eight years of blogging will still exist. Because we're ending this typepad account, we've been archiving the typepad blog here. And the original blogger archive is still here. There will still be new content from the old 'hoggers crew too. Ron writes for The Moderate Voice, I post at The Agonist and Eric Martin's lucid foreign policy thoughts can be read at Democracy Arsenal.

I'd like to thank all our regular commenters, readers and the other bloggers who regularly linked to our posts over the years to agree or disagree. You all made writing for 'hoggers an amazingly fun and stimulating experience.

Thank you very much.

Note: This is an archive copy of Newshoggers. Most of the pictures are gone but the words are all here. There may be some occasional new content, John may do some posts and Ron will cross post some of his contributions to The Moderate Voice so check back.

Tabloid Propaganda

Commentary By Ron Beasley

DE

Apparently this was even too ridiculous for Murdoch's propaganda organs so they had to settle for a British tabloid, the Daily Express.

SAUDIS WILL LET ISRAEL BOMB IRAN NUCLEAR SITE

INTELLIGENCE chief Sir John Scarlett has been told that Saudi Arabia is ready to allow Israel to bomb Irans new nuclear site.

I'm sure that the Saudis are uncomfortable with the idea of Iran having nukes.  The Sunni Saudis are a natural enemy of the Shiite Iranians.  But openly cooperating with Israel?  It doesn't seem very likely.  It would lead to domestic unrest and protests against them throughout the Arab world.

The head of MI6 discussed the issue in London with
Mossad chief Meir Dagan and Saudi officials after British intelligence
officers helped to uncover the plant, in the side of a mountain near
the ancient city of Qom.

The
site is seen as a major threat by Tel Aviv and Riyadh. Details of the
talks emerged after John Bolton, Americas former UN ambassador, told a
meeting of intelligence analysts that Riyadh certainly approves of
Israels use of Saudi airspace.

Note that no source is given - not even one who didn't want to be named.  Why?  because they just made this shit up.

So who are the "reporters" responsible for this story?

Camilla Tominey: She covers rumors about the Royal family for the Express.

Gordon Thomas: He was a bit more difficult to track down but it would appear that he is a writer who has written both fiction and non fiction about Mossad.

So we have a rumor monger and a fiction writer - how appropriate.   Of course the wingers are all over this tabloid fiction.

  1. Its not sourced quite as badly as you're saying. Note the attributed quote at the end from the leader of the 'ruly mob' at Miami Board of Elections office. Everything above that is riffing off Bolton's assurances.

  2. It may be fiction, but it might be good for oil speculators. Threats to Iran typically jack up oil futures by a buck or two per barrel.

  3. Gordon Thomas, author of reports for the Express like US SPY TAPES 'REVEAL DIANA WAS PREGNANT'...
He also believes that Robert Maxwell, very fat and crooked former owner of rival tabloid the Daily Mirror, was Israel's "super-spy" and was murdered by Mossad because he knew too much.
    A kook, in other words.
