Farewell. The Flying Pig Has Left The Building.

Steve Hynd, August 16, 2012

After four years on the Typepad site, eight years total blogging, Newshoggers is closing it's doors today. We've been coasting the last year or so, with many of us moving on to bigger projects (Hey, Eric!) or simply running out of blogging enthusiasm, and it's time to give the old flying pig a rest.

We've done okay over those eight years, although never being quite PC enough to gain wider acceptance from the partisan "party right or wrong" crowds. We like to think we moved political conversations a little, on the ever-present wish to rush to war with Iran, on the need for a real Left that isn't licking corporatist Dem boots every cycle, on America's foreign misadventures in Afghanistan and Iraq. We like to think we made a small difference while writing under that flying pig banner. We did pretty good for a bunch with no ties to big-party apparatuses or think tanks.

Those eight years of blogging will still exist. Because we're ending this typepad account, we've been archiving the typepad blog here. And the original blogger archive is still here. There will still be new content from the old 'hoggers crew too. Ron writes for The Moderate Voice, I post at The Agonist and Eric Martin's lucid foreign policy thoughts can be read at Democracy Arsenal.

I'd like to thank all our regular commenters, readers and the other bloggers who regularly linked to our posts over the years to agree or disagree. You all made writing for 'hoggers an amazingly fun and stimulating experience.

Thank you very much.

Note: This is an archive copy of Newshoggers. Most of the pictures are gone but the words are all here. There may be some occasional new content, John may do some posts and Ron will cross post some of his contributions to The Moderate Voice so check back.

Blame the Hippies

Commentary By Ron Beasley

As Dave reported below Democrats stayed home in MA.  Yesterday I suggested that the Democrats would misinterpret what this election meant and that is exactly what has happened.  The corporate whore disquised as a Democrat, Lanny Davis, fired the first shot at the dirty f#@king hippies in the WSJ this morning.  The other DLC corporatists were quick to join him.  While everyone seems to be talking about health care reform the real problem is the bailout of Wall Street and the bankers.  Harry Truman knew when Democrats lose.....

I've seen it happen time
after time. When the Democratic candidate allows himself to be put on
the defensive and starts apologizing for the New Deal and the fair
Deal, and says he really doesn't believe in them, he is sure to lose.
The people don't want a phony Democrat. If it's a choice between a
genuine Republican, and a Republican in Democratic clothing, the people
will choose the genuine article, every time; that is, they will take a
Republican before they will a phony Democrat
, and I don't want any
phony Democratic candidates in this campaign.

But when a Democratic candidate goes out and explains what the
New Deal and fair Deal really are -- when he stands up like a man and
puts the issues before the people -- then Democrats can win, even in
places where they have never won before. It has been proven time and
again.

The Republicans have capitalized on the populist rage - and they don't mean it.  If Obama is to save his presidency and the Democratic party he needs to quit listening to the DLC corporatist Democrats and dump his economic team.  He must support re-establishment of Glass-Steagal and support accountability for the FED.  It has become obvious that Obama is a corporatist phony Democrat so I see liitle reason to believe that is going to happen. And about that health care reform - the voters supported it until it became a gift for the medical industrial complex.  Don't forget that 60% supported the public option.  But Obama is a DLC corporatists and will continue his Wall Street welfare and suffer the fate of all phony Democrats.  And the dirty hippies will once again get all the blame.

  1. Outstanding post.
How can we raise enough money to put an appropriate version into magazines and newspapers until a critical mass of real Democrats get the message?
    I'll pledge a hundred bucks.

I would dearly love to hear that Larry Summers wants to spend more time with his family. And he should take all the other neo-liberals with him.
