Farewell. The Flying Pig Has Left The Building.

Steve Hynd, August 16, 2012

After four years on the Typepad site, eight years total blogging, Newshoggers is closing it's doors today. We've been coasting the last year or so, with many of us moving on to bigger projects (Hey, Eric!) or simply running out of blogging enthusiasm, and it's time to give the old flying pig a rest.

We've done okay over those eight years, although never being quite PC enough to gain wider acceptance from the partisan "party right or wrong" crowds. We like to think we moved political conversations a little, on the ever-present wish to rush to war with Iran, on the need for a real Left that isn't licking corporatist Dem boots every cycle, on America's foreign misadventures in Afghanistan and Iraq. We like to think we made a small difference while writing under that flying pig banner. We did pretty good for a bunch with no ties to big-party apparatuses or think tanks.

Those eight years of blogging will still exist. Because we're ending this typepad account, we've been archiving the typepad blog here. And the original blogger archive is still here. There will still be new content from the old 'hoggers crew too. Ron writes for The Moderate Voice, I post at The Agonist and Eric Martin's lucid foreign policy thoughts can be read at Democracy Arsenal.

I'd like to thank all our regular commenters, readers and the other bloggers who regularly linked to our posts over the years to agree or disagree. You all made writing for 'hoggers an amazingly fun and stimulating experience.

Thank you very much.

Note: This is an archive copy of Newshoggers. Most of the pictures are gone but the words are all here. There may be some occasional new content, John may do some posts and Ron will cross post some of his contributions to The Moderate Voice so check back.

Predict the right's response for an arrested rat-fucker

By Dave Anderson:

The ACORN "stings" last summer were a successful wedging and rat-fucking operation by a low level right wing operative supported by the institutional right.  Video was effectively spliced, voices were redubbed and the Democrats and liberals got bitch-slapped hard:

Huge victory for Glenn Beck! Only 75 Democrats had the guts to stand up
for ACORN today when the not-so-hapless Republican minority forced
through a motion by GOP crook Darrell Issa (R-CA) to defund the
organization....

Democrats engage in ritualistic self-flaggation and hippie punching to
please the Republican aligned activists that will never vote for them...

ACORN is now out of the voter registration business.  ACORN will not be
pursuing low income, urban, non-white potential voters.  If that is not
a description of a base Democratic voter, I don't know who is a base
Democratic voter.  Other activist groups will note that if the right
throws a hissy fit, get ready for a Democratic driven bus to run them
over.

And now today, the rat-fucker who was behind this bitch-slap exercise was attempting to emulate the epitome of Republican politics; Watergate.  Like Liddy et al, he got caught.

Alleging a plot to tamper with phones in Democratic Sen. Mary
Landrieus office in the Hale Boggs Federal Building in downtown New
Orleans, the FBI arrested four people Monday, including James OKeefe, 25, a conservative filmmaker whose undercover videos at ACORN field offices severely damaged the advocacy groups credibility.

Also arrested were Joseph Basel, Stan Dai and Robert Flanagan, all 24.
Flanagan is the son of William Flanagan, who is the acting U.S.
Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana, the office confirmed.
All four were charged with entering federal property under false
pretenses with the intent of committing a felony.

Will there be any Congressional resolutions condemning these four?

Will there be any bills of attainder passed?

Will Republicans scurry away from any association with these four, including any material generated about ACORN?

Will these four have any problems finding work in the conservative infrastructure the moment that their plea bargains are accepted?

Will major conservative leaders argue one of the two following lines: "They are just frat boys trying to prank the Senator, have a sense of humor" or "Michael Moore ambushes people too and is fat..."

1-4 are all easily answered as NO.  The fifth is a toss-up.
