The leaders of President Obama's fiscal commission released a final report Wednesday that is full of political dynamite, recommending sharp cuts in military spending, a higher retirement age and reforms that could cost the average taxpayer an extra $1,700 a year. [My bold].
I know times are hard and selling newspapers ain't what it used to be, but seventeen hundred dollars per taxpayer makes me question what comprises such a shocking number. My first reaction was Oh, Shit. I know anyone who has that kind of money to spare, much less in taxes. Then I remembered this:
?Bill Gates walked into a bar and everyone in the place suddenly became a millionaire...on average.
I hate the recommendations of the Catfood Commission as much as anyone, but that kind of screaming in the opening sentence of a news report is over the top.
Lies, damn lies and statistics again...
I'm sure there is plenty to criticize without nutty lines like this.
