Via James Joyner, the CSM notes that Afghan life expectency has decreased after a decade of war that is supposed to bring freedom, flowers, and access to modern medical care:
But the CIA does keep track of such things. The CIA World Factbook, updated in August, says that the average Afghan life expectancy at birth is 45.02 years, ranking 220 in the world. The CIA�s estimate of life expectancy in 2001 was 46.24.
One would expect that an active war zone would reduce life expectency of the people in conflict area. That is not the surprising result, but again, we should remember that war is not good for public or personal health.
