I have been a photographer for most of my life. I went digital and closed my darkroom over 10 yeras ago. I have digitized my better negatives. Here is one of my favorites:
But we have the masters-Ansel Adams of course is known by many. I suspect that Adams would have embraced digital photography and if he was still alive he would have written books on how to make the most out of the new media.
But can digital really duplicate the wonderful art of Edward Steichen? This is a magnificent picture:
Art like times change. But photography is no longer what it was. A point and shot camera today has the resolution of a 4 X 5 view camera. But you still have to see a good image. But to do art photographic seeing is still necessary. In the old silver days you had to see what the film saw now you have to see what the charge coupled device sees. Today it is easier to make pictures but it is not easier to make art.
Both very ominous and foreboding images. Haunting. After reading your piece on Wyden this a.m. - I wonder if you'll become a photographer again by 2016?
