I've been keeping an eye on the BBC coverage of the British elections and besides being blown away by the clarity and the non-breathlessness of the reporting of the obvious, their website has been extremely useful. I just took this screen capture a few minutes ago, and my only thought is will the defeated Conservative MP ever live his/her loss down as the only Conservative MP to lose during a very good night where it looks like the Conservatives get either a straight majority, or a simple coalition with the Irish Protestant parties?
How embarrassing to be the only loser of the night.
Not to worry--it's up to three now. And it's a genuine hung parliament--probably the only way for a conservative majority government at this point is an alliance with the Lib Dems (which itself is probably not likely given the opposition of much of the Tory party to the Lib Dem's chief demand of proportional representation). It's unlikely that the price of some Scottish minority party--no cuts to Scotland--will be palatable to MPs from England and Wales.
ReplyDeleteWell, by now it's up to four. And according to the oddsmaker Ladbrokes, two of those four losses actually were expected.
